Community Service
Patton Boggs attorneys and staff undertake many initiatives to help improve life in our communities through efforts that do not involve legal representation. Below are descriptions of some of the many projects we have been involved with over the years.
Firm Sponsors The Salvation’s Army’s Toyland; Collects Hundreds of Toys - December 2006
For the second consecutive year, Patton Boggs sponsored The Salvation Army's Toyland drive in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Working with the organization and TV station NBC 4, volunteers from the firm's DC and Northern Virginia offices collected hundreds of toys at drop-off bins in both offices, with DC partners Sally Garr and De Smith adding their support by taping a public service announcement which was frequently aired on NBC4 during the drive to promote our efforts.
In addition, the firm held an internal kick-off event in the DC office, where staff and attorneys were treated to holiday carols sung by children from the Capitol Kids Daycare and grateful remarks from local NBC 4 news anchor Barbara Harrison and Salvation Army Captain Steve Morris, before managing partner Stuart Pape presented The Salvation Army with a $5,000 donation. Patton Boggs collected more than 350 toys and raised $250 dollars for future toy purchases, and in a last-minute surprise, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #1 (Washington, D.C.) contacted the firm after seeing the TV spot and offered to add nearly 500 toys that they had collected to our haul.

Dallas Holiday Giving Committee Especially Generous This Season - December 2006
The firm’s Dallas office had a very successful year with its collection and distribution of food and gifts.
The Holiday Giving Committee spearheaded a Thanksgiving celebration by generously giving food to J.J. Rhodes Learning Center. Baskets were distributed to 16 families at the Center, and the parents, students, and staff thanked everyone at Patton Boggs for their generosity.
Attorneys and staff in Dallas also donated gifts and money to organizations they chose to support this year. The firm fulfilled the wish lists for 17 children from Happy Hill Farm, 17 families from Frost Elementary, and donated enough funds to Union Gospel Mission for a washer and dryer set.

Patton Boggs Partners with the Salvation Army and NBC 4 to Give Toys to Needy Children in the Community - December 2005
From November 22 through December 9, 2005, the DC office of Patton Boggs hosted PB Toyland, a holiday partnership with The Salvation Army and local TV station NBC 4 to collect and distribute toys for needy children in the Washington region. The drive opened with a kick-off lunch at the firm on November 22 that included a visit by Salvation Army Captain Kelly Igleheart and NBC 4 anchor Joe Krebs.
In addition, the firm worked alongside NBC 4 to produce TV spots that aired throughout the month of December encouraging people to contribute to Toyland. By the time the drive closed, both the firm and community had donated a total of 500 toys!
Aside from fostering a "culture of giving" in our professional community, these toy donations will provide a means of recreation for children whose families might otherwise not be able to afford such items. Please see the following photos for some of the highlights of Toyland 2005.

Patton Boggs’ Dallas Office Aids Local Organizations During 2005 Holiday Giving Drive - December 23, 2005
The Holiday Giving Team at the Dallas Office of Patton Boggs stepped up its efforts to serve the Dallas community during the 2005 holiday season by providing food and monetary donations to several organizations that assist underprivileged individuals in the area.
In an effort to meet its goal of providing 12 Thanksgiving Baskets for families at Cesar Chavez Learning Center, the Team greatly exceeded its expectations, donating so much food that there were four extra boxes of nonperishable goods. The Team subsequently delivered the additional food to the Jewish Family Service of Dallas, which preserves and strengthens the quality of life for individuals and families in the Jewish and greater Dallas communities by providing essential and affordable mental-health and social services. Both groups were very appreciative of the offerings, assuring that the donations would help meet their critical demand for food during the holiday season.
The Team, headed by Sharon Hunter and Nicole McCoy, also gave generously to the Joseph J. Rhoads Learning Center, Happy Hill Farm, and Union Gospel Mission, providing money, presents and groceries to these organizations during the office’s 2005 Holiday Giving Drive.

Francis Junior High School—Patton Boggs “adopted” this DC school some 10 years ago, and since then we have enjoyed a number of volunteer opportunities, from tutoring to proctoring exams, from coaching the football team to serving as mentors for 7th graders during their participation in a science fair.
Concerts for Kids—The Denver office has been an active sponsor of Concerts for Kids, a non-profit for children’s charities including the Denver Children’s Hospital Foundation, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Colorado and the Denver Public Schools Foundation.
Food & Friends—the Northern Virginia office is active in this community service project, which provides home-delivered meals, groceries and nutritional education to people living with HIV/AIDS and other life-challenging illnesses—the only nonprofit organization in the Washington DC region to provide these services.
Family Place—Patton Boggs staff members provide ongoing assistance at this center for at risk children and families in the Dallas area.
Whitman-Walker Clinic’s Annual AIDS Walk—Patton Boggs is an enthusiastic supporter of this fundraiser for the Whitman-Walker Legal Clinic, a legal service provider for persons and families living with AIDS.
Lee Denim Day—This national breast cancer fundraiser receives wide support from the firm; our combined offices have raised tens of thousands of dollars for breast cancer research through this project.
Salvation Army Care for Kids—Volunteers in the Anchorage office collect gifts of toys and clothing for local children during the holiday season—granting the children participating in the program some much needed holiday cheer.
Habitat for Humanity—Patton Boggs summer associates participate in the “Buildable Hours” program, a daylong event that allows members of the DC legal community to contribute time and labor to home building projects throughout the city.
Special Olympics—Patton Boggs fields a team for the Colorado Winter Corporate Games, a fundraiser to benefit the important work of Special Olympics.
Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure—The firm is happy to participate in and support the efforts of this national breast cancer research fundraiser, with different offices fielding teams in their respective cities.
Denver Rescue Mission—This charity receives wide participation from attorneys and staff during the firm’s annual drive to collect toys, food, blankets and other necessities for homeless families.
Gifts for the Homeless—The DC office is a longtime participant in the annual Gifts for the Homeless (GFTH) campaign, which collects clothing and supplies for the area’s homeless. GFTH is a non-profit organization created by law firms to collect and distribute clothing and other essentials to the homeless during the holiday season. |
