- Medical malpractice and wrongful death
- Family law (often pertaining to the division of large estates)
- Breach of contract, breach of noncompete agreements and breach of leases
As a judge in the 160th Judicial District Court of the State of Texas from August 2002 through January 2006, Judge Cox presided over 84 jury trials, 30 bench trials, thousands of hearings and received outstanding marks from the lawyers of Dallas County in the 2005 Judicial Evaluation Poll.
Both before and after his service as judge, he was partner at a Dallas-based law firm, gaining significant knowledge with depositions of facts and expert witnesses and developing motion and hearing practice encompassing discovery disputes, summary judgments, temporary and permanent injunctions, contesting venue and jurisdiction, forum non conveniens, forcible entry and detainers, garnishments, sanctions and contempt.
Judge Cox previously performed substantial work as an attorney volunteer for Legal Services of North Texas, the East Dallas Legal Clinic, and the Dallas Housing Crisis Center, among others.
