Ben Chew represents clients involved in commercial litigation throughout the United States. He handles a wide variety of disputes, involving breach of contract, Uniform Commercial Code, products liability, lease and other real estate transactions, personal injury, insurance law, trade association liability, and fraud, and he has substantial experience in arbitration, mediation, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.
Fluent in Spanish, Mr. Chew practices before myriad state and federal courts, including bankruptcy, where he has prosecuted and defended several adversary complaints, preference actions, and related matters. In recent years, he has successfully defended manufacturers and a major trade association in products liability cases across the nation. Currently, he is representing the world’s largest manufacturer of industrial batteries in complex litigation and defending an oil services company in breach of contract/tort cases pending in state and federal court in Nevada.
Representative Matters
- Serves as regional counsel for NRT (Coldwell Banker), defending real estate disputes.
- Defended a major trade association, winning dismissal of fourteen products liability cases, including a class action in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
- Defended a large wood-products manufacturer in several cases in state and federal courts up and down the East Coast of the United States.
- Successfully prosecuted two large personal injury (accident) cases in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia
- On behalf of an instrumentality of the Emirate of Dubai, won dismissal of petition of Fortune 500 company to enforce a $25 million-plus arbitration award in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
- Successfully defended a Fortune 50 company in a complex, multi-million dollar breach of contract action in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
