Brian Owens advises clients in developing, protecting, enforcing, and commercializing intellectual property. He has served as outside patent and trademark counsel to various entities ranging from Fortune 500 companies to independent inventors and start-up companies.

Mr. Owens prepares and prosecutes patent applications on behalf of corporate clients for inventions in both the high-tech and business sectors. His  experience enables him to assist inventors and organizations with complex hardware and software technologies as well as financial and business processes, including the development of an Internet-based tool for disclosing, approving, developing, and filing for intellectual property rights.

In addition to  developing overall patent filing strategies, Mr. Owens  drafts, prosecutes, enforces, and licenses a wide range of patents in complex industries and fields such as telecommunications, data and transactional processing systems, software, mechanical and electrical test systems, semiconductors, network architectures and standards, database systems, digital imaging, wireless communications, medical devices, and digital and analog circuits.

Mr. Owens is experienced in negotiating agreements, licenses, and relationships that help define and enhance his clients’ businesses. He has participated in and prepared patentability, infringement, and validity opinions and analysis; enforcement strategies; due diligence; and portfolio evaluations.

Before rejoining Patton Boggs, Mr. Owens practiced in the Dallas office of one of the world’s largest international law firms.
