Claire Grabowski Cooper concentrates her practice in complex environmental litigation arising under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Spill Act and other state and federal environmental statutes.
Ms. Cooper represented an automobile manufacturer in a CERCLA and Spill Act cost recovery and contribution action initiated in the District of New Jersey for costs associated with multi-site removal and remediation of contaminated concrete. She also represented a major liability insurer in a CERCLA cost recovery and contribution action in Central District of California against the United States for cleanup costs associated with perchlorate, TCE, military ordnance and other contamination at a former ordnance and rocket manufacturing facility in California.
Ms. Cooper’s pro bono experience includes successfully negotiating a revised Individualized Education Plan and out-of-district placement for a New Jersey elementary school student with special needs.
Before joining Patton Boggs, Ms. Cooper served as a law clerk to Judge Rudy B. Coleman of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division. While pursuing her law degree at Rutgers University School of Law, Ms. Cooper served as managing editor of the Women’s Rights Law Reporter. She also worked as a student attorney in one of the school’s clinical programs and was a teaching associate in the Legal Research and Writing program.
