Christina Guerola Sarchio has received national recognition for both her legal skills and business acumen. Ms. Sarchio, co-chair of the Firm’s Government Investigations and Litigation practice group, concentrates her practice on commercial litigation, antitrust and white collar criminal defense matters. She has significant trial experience in federal and state courts, and has represented Fortune 500 and other clients in both criminal and civil litigation, including class actions. Ms. Sarchio’s cases have involved antitrust, contract, business torts, employment, intellectual property, environmental and franchise/dealer issues. Her representation spans several industries, including oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceutical, alcoholic beverages, transportation, tobacco and consumer products. Ms. Sarchio also serves on the national roster for the American Arbitration Association.
Ms. Sarchio has received a number of awards and been featured in numerous publications for her legal prowess. In 2008, Hispanic Business Magazine selected her as one of “Twenty Elite Women,” and she received George Washington Law School’s prestigious Belva Lockwood Woman of the Year Award. Washington Business Journal named Ms. Sarchio a 2007 Top Washington Lawyer in the “Young Guns” category, and she was chosen as one of the “100 Most Influential Hispanics” in the country by Hispanic Business Magazine in 2006.
She served as the Hispanic National Bar Association’s Vice President for External Affairs and is a past President of the Hispanic Bar Association of DC, which received the Hispanic National Bar Association’s “Best Affiliate of the Year” award in 2006 under her leadership. Ms. Sarchio has taught as an adjunct professor at George Washington University Law School and frequently provides on-air legal commentary.
Ms. Sarchio is a former prosecutor from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.
Representative Matters
- Lead trial counsel for homeopathic drug manufacturer in several nationwide class action cases alleging false drug labeling.
- Counseling Toyota North American Quality Advisory Panel.
- Successfully defended two members of Congress under investigation by the Office of Congressional Ethics.
- Negotiated favorable resolution with FDA resulting in no enforcement action brought against a university hospital for using non FDA-approved medical devices.
- Secured dismissal of antitrust matter for ExxonMobil (Diaz Aviation Corp. v. Esso Standard Oil Co. et al., 2011 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 4651 (D. Pr. 2011).
- Advised R. Allen Stanford in SEC and DOJ actions and argued for his release at detention hearing (U.S. v. Stanford, E.D. Va. (Richmond) June 19, 2009)).
- Lead trial counsel in “infomercial fraud” case for individual facing conspiracy, mail and wire fraud charges and won dismissal after four-week jury trial (United States v. Woolf/Gengler, 2009 U.S. Dist. Lexis 98857 (E.D. Va. 2009).
- Successfully negotiated contract dispute for U-Haul International.
- Lead trial counsel for ExxonMobil in five consolidated cases brought by more than 100 dealers to enjoin sale and divestiture of gas station business in Puerto Rico and won after bench trial (Santiago-Sepulveda, et. al. v. Esso Standard Oil Co., Inc. et al., 582 F. Supp. 2d 154 (D. Pr. 2008)).
- Defeated class certification for consumer products manufacturer in New Jersey action alleging consumer fraud and false advertising of one of its biggest selling over-the-counter products.
- Represented foreign company in international antitrust price-fixing investigation and negotiated plea agreements with DOJ and other national and international enforcement agencies.
