David Brody’s practice focuses on upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas transactions and strategic advice for major and independent oil and gas producers, pipeline companies, developers and service companies, both domestically and internationally. Mr. Brody has extensive experience representing oil and gas clients operating throughout the Rocky Mountain region and in Europe, Iraq, Australia, South Africa and other countries throughout the world. His work includes all aspects of exploration and production operations, gas gathering, transportation, sales and related transactions (purchase and sale agreements, leases, farmouts, exploration and development agreements, JVs and other agreements), as well as extensive experience on a wide variety of legislative and regulatory issues. With more than 35 years of experience in these areas, Mr. Brody is able to effectively deliver a wide range of legal services to his clients to help them accomplish their objectives, including making available to his clients Patton Boggs’ unique firm wide and worldwide capabilities when necessary.

Mr. Brody also represents clients in transactions related to global trading of petroleum products and other commodities. This includes purchase and sale agreements and related agreements involving crude oil, refined products, LNG, metals, minerals and other products. 

Previously, Mr. Brody worked for Amoco Corporation, where he focused on acquisitions, divestments and other complex transactions, and managed extensive major litigation. He was also general counsel for two Amoco subsidiaries, a member of management teams and head of numerous special projects.

Representative Matters:
  • Represented international oil company in negotiating and closing major oil and gas exploration and development agreement with super-major in Hungary.
  • Counsel for numerous domestic independent oil and gas companies throughout Rocky Mountain region, Mid-Continent region, Texas and California, in negotiating purchase and sale agreements, farmouts, joint operating agreements, lease acquisitions, and related agreements, operational matters, and regulatory issues.
  • Represented major oil company in $1 billion acquisition of oil and gas properties in U.S.
  • Represented large independent oil companies in negotiating exploration and development agreements with Native American Tribes, including Southern Ute Indian Tribe, Navajo Nation, Ute Tribe, Crow Indian Tribe, and others.
