David Mayer has more than 30 years of experience representing clients involved in transactions as buyers, sellers, lessees, lessors, lenders and borrowers of personal property and facilities. The property includes business aircraft, gas storage facilities, transportation assets, energy facilities (including wind farms), infrastructure (including toll roads) and technology assets. He also offers a broad array of skills in cross-border transactions. Mr. Mayer has used his 26 years of experience in the energy sector, developing and financing a variety of projects, ranging from thermal energy facilities to wind energy projects. Focusing primarily on the financing of these facilities, his background also includes a heavy concentration in development work acquired by working as counsel in domestic and international energy development companies, including performing extensive diligence, structuring transactions, drafting a variety of contracts and participating in almost every element of development and financing of projects. Mr. Mayer is adept in financing natural gas storage facilities, including structuring and closing transactions using a pad gas or base gas lease as part of the financing package.

When transactions encounter defaults or other disputes, especially in the current economic crisis, Mr. Mayer’s extensive restructuring and workout experience, coupled with his business acumen, help his clients achieve common sense solutions to seemingly intractable problems.

Mr. Mayer speaks regularly at conferences on a wide array of topics and has become a prolific writer since 2001 when his book, Business Leasing For Dummies, was published. It is still available online.

In January 2002, he founded Business Leasing and Finance News (formerly Business Leasing News), an online newsletter that provides business leasing, lending and related-transactional analysis in a clear, concise and useful manner for readers in nearly 45 countries. He aims to help readers, clients and friends of the firm make money and stay out of harm’s way in business. Mayer also provides information and analysis designed to help readers understand and cope with the problems of distressed organizations, a skill that is particularly relevant given the current economic climate.
