Darryl Nirenberg, Deputy Chair of the firm’s Public Policy Department, protects clients’ interests before the U.S. Congress, federal agencies and the White House by focusing on parliamentary procedure and developing legislative strategies. He advises clients on issues involving domestic and international taxation, advertising, healthcare, agriculture, gaming and energy.
Mr. Nirenberg joined Patton Boggs after serving more that a dozen years in senior Republican legislative positions in the U.S. Senate, where he managed major domestic and foreign policy legislation.
He recently served as counsel to the 2000 Republican Platform Committee and to the 2001 Presidential Inaugural Committee. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Nirenberg served as chief of staff to Senator Jesse Helms, where he was responsible for banking, financial and legal issues. He also served as staff director to the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, where he managed the legislative activities of Republican Committee Staff, including reauthorizations of the Foreign Aid and State Authorization Acts, and International Sanctions Legislation. Mr. Nirenberg has worked with the Republican Professional Staff to the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, where he handled international agricultural and trade law issues, and authored the Food for Progress Program.
He is also an active member of the community, where he coaches teams in Arlington Little League and the Alexandria Soccer Association.
Representative Matters:
- Involved in a number of high-profile legislative matters, including enactment of The Fairness to Contact Lens Consumers Act of 2003, and initiatives related to the export of U.S. nuclear technologies; direct to consumer advertising of pharmaceuticals; reform of domestic agricultural programs; tax treatment of real estate investment trusts; and exploration of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
