David Tafuri assists corporate clients with international business, litigation, and regulatory matters. Mr. Tafuri is experienced in finding creative, multi-forum solutions for clients confronted with legal issues in the United States and overseas. He has tried cases in federal and state court and represented clients in international arbitration.

Mr. Tafuri has particularly strong capability in resolving matters involving international law. He represents domestic and foreign companies in commercial transactions, civil litigation, criminal investigations, and mediation and arbitration. In addition, he has assisted foreign nationals in a variety of matters, including political asylum and refugee proceedings.

Mr. Tafuri recently returned from 15 months in Iraq, where he served as the Department of State's Rule of Law Coordinator for Iraq at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. In that position, he was responsible for advising the U.S. Ambassador and staff on the Iraqi justice system. In addition, he designed and managed justice system assistance programs for the U.S. Government and led a joint team of U.S. military and civilian personnel in drafting the strategic plan to strengthen the Iraqi justice system. During his time with the Department of State, he also managed a number of large government contracts and non-profit grants designed to rebuild the Iraqi legal system.

Mr. Tafuri's current and previous clients include several venture capital and private equity funds, a former Cabinet level Secretary, a foreign trade bank, a national excess insurance carrier, a leading manufacturer of smart card and security technology, foreign airline carriers, a software and consulting services firm, an international labor union and regional and international business councils.

In addition to his position with the Department of State, Mr. Tafuri draws on his previous experience as an aide to the Senate Judiciary Committee and a staff assistant to several presidential and congressional campaigns to augment his practice. Before entering private practice, Mr. Tafuri worked for the United Nations in Turkey.
