Denise Vanison advises multi-national and domestic corporate clients on international transfers, employment of foreign nationals in the United States and procurement of passports and visas at U.S. embassies and consulates abroad. Ms. Vanison drafts visa and green card petitions, labor certifications, humanitarian parole applications, diversity immigrant visa lottery applications and naturalization applications. Her practice also includes counseling and assisting clients in acquiring immigrant and non-immigrant visas in a variety of categories at U.S. consulates abroad. In addition to assisting clients with the acquisition of green cards and visas, Ms. Vanison handles issues involving United States citizenship and represents clients on asylum and withholding of removal matters before the Maryland, District of Columbia, and Virginia immigration courts.
Additionally, Ms. Vanison has been involved in legislative efforts involving immigration and nationality law, impacting corporate clients. Her public policy work includes preparing white papers, drafting proposed legislation and developing lobbying strategies.
Ms. Vanison’s experience also encompasses advice on employment issues such as I-9 employment verification requirements and procedures. In this area of her practice, Ms. Vanison presents I-9 employment verification seminars to major multinational companies, performs I-9 audits and prepares reports detailing deficiencies and assists human resource departments with the effective recruitment of foreign nationals.
A member of the firm’s Executive Committee, Ms. Vanison also represents pro bono clients on immigration and social security matters and serves as co-chair of Patton Boggs’ Pro Bono Committee.
Representative Matters:
Ms. Vanison has over a ninety-nine percent success rate in obtaining nonimmigrant visas and green cards. - Obtained H-1B status on behalf of a client who was originally denied H-1B status based on a petition filed by another immigration attorney.
Developed strategies for proposed legislation to assist professional athletes and their dependents with obtaining permanent residency status. Conducted I-9 audit for large multinational corporation and developed procedures to comply with Department of Labor and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service regulations. Obtained humanitarian parole for Russian child of permanent resident and Congolese child of asylee, who would have otherwise not been permitted to join their parents in the U.S.
