Hussein Damirji – cited by The Lawyer as “Iraq’s most high-profile business lawyer” – has extensive international experience advising business clients on their most significant legal affairs, including banking and securities law; corporate finance; mergers and acquisitions; employment law; insurance law; litigation; media law; and oil and gas law.
Mr. Damirji’s knowledge of business law is truly global; he has spearheaded transactions throughout the world and has served as counsel to law firms in Iraq, Jordan, the UK, Turkey and the United States. Most recently, he founded and served as managing partner of a prominent Iraqi law firm, which he formed following the removal of Saddam Hussein’s regime. Under his leadership, the firm represented a diverse group of high-profile, multi-national clients and earned recognition for both its business and pro bono capabilities.
Previously, Mr. Damirji handled corporate issues – specifically involving U.S. capital markets – at the world’s largest law firm. He also worked for a leading global financial management and advisory company as a member of a legal team advising the equity capital markets group on all aspects of equity offerings, as well as managing and overseeing all aspects of European and Middle Eastern equity offerings, including managing client relationships and liaising with local counsel and investment bankers.
Mr. Damirji has been featured as an expert by several media outlets, including CNN and Al Jazeera, and is fluent in English, Arabic, French and German.
