Jed Freedlander practices in the area of domestic and international finance, concentrating on infrastructure finance, public-private partnerships and project finance. He has represented lenders, equity sponsors and investors, underwriters, operators and government entities in a wide range of transportation and social infrastructure projects.

Mr. Freedlander has also worked extensively in the energy and commodity finance sectors, representing developers, investors and lenders in coal and gas-fired generation projects as well as in renewable energy, waste-to-energy and biomass projects.

Before practicing law, Mr. Freedlander worked for four years as a management consultant, primarily advising a large electric utility, and also co-founded an Internet company. He serves on and advises the boards of several not-for-profit entities in the arts, education and environmental awareness. Mr. Freedlander is fluent in French. 

Representative Matters

Social Infrastructure
  • Served as lead associate on the team advising the lenders to Meridiam Infrastructure in its successful bid for the concession to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the new Long Beach Court Building project.  The project was selected by Project Finance magazine as the North American PPP Deal of the Year for 2010 and represents the first social infrastructure availability-based PPP deal to close in North America.
  • Represented the operator in a shortlisted concessionaire team bidding on a large municipal metered parking concession.

Roads and Bridges
  • Represented the lenders to a shortlisted consortium bidding on the Alligator Alley concession.
  • Advised a shortlisted bidder for the greenfield concession to design, build, finance, operate and maintain Jackson Airport Parkway.
  • Represented the Missouri Department of Transportation in the public procurement process for the award of a concession to design, build, finance and maintain rural bridges throughout the state.
  • Represented a large infrastructure fund in the analysis of an acquisition of two North American toll road concessions.

Ports and Airports
  • Represented the Virginia Port Authority in evaluating potential public-private partnership proposals.
  • Represented the developer of a deepwater port in Nova Scotia and a consortium bidding on a Southport, PA container terminal project.
  • Represented an international consortium in the successful or shortlisted bids for several international and regional European airports including London City, Birmingham, Exeter and Siena Airports.

Energy
  • Represented a contractor financing its involvement in a large wind generation project through a sale of EPC contract receivables.
  • Represented the equity and subordinated lender to a development-stage Mexican natural gas-fired 590 MW power plant providing power to the United States and Mexican grid and maquiladora factories.  
  • Represented the underwriter for an equity issuance by an early-stage alternative energy company focused on development of geothermal facilities and technology.
  • Represented the developer of modular and transportable biomass-fueled 300kW power plants.
  • Advised borrower in $810 million wrapped refinancing of a North American coal-fired power plant.
  • Represented a large state-owned oil and gas company in complex negotiations with other members of drilling consortia and with respect to various first-to-market deep-water drilling platforms and shuttle tanker charters.
