Kirkandrae (Kirk) Durrant is based in Patton Boggs’ Doha office and is a member of its Middle East and North Africa Practice Group. Mr. Durrant’s practice focuses on all aspects of domestic and international construction law.
Mr. Durrant advises clients, including sovereigns, government/quasi-governmental entities, private owners, developers, international contractors and consultants on a variety of legal issues pertinent to the construction industry. His practice has focused on advising on project delivery methods (including EPC, EPCM, PPP, BOOT etc.), preparing and negotiating complex standard form and bespoke construction agreements (including consultancy agreements, joint venture agreements, operation and management agreements etc.) and litigating disputes in courts and alternate dispute resolution forums (including the ICC, ICDR, CEDR and LCIA). Mr. Durrant has extensive experience in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and frequently advises clients on matters involving United States, Qatar and other laws applicable to countries in the MENA region.
Prior to joining Patton Boggs, Mr. Durrant practiced construction law at a well known New Jersey law firm. He is a fellow of the American Bar Association Forum on the Construction Industry and currently sits on the steering committee of its International Contracting division. Mr. Durrant was an extern to Senior Judge Peter Dorsey, United States District Court, District of Connecticut.
Representative Matters
- Continuing to advise owner client regarding contract, preparation, negotiation and administration, dispute avoidance and dispute resolution on a USD$15 billion EPCM airport construction project.
- Continuing to advise owner client regarding contract, preparation, negotiation and administration on a USD $8 billion commercial/naval port construction project.
- Continuing to advise master developer client regarding the finance and construction of a USD$4 billion mixed use development, including the construction of a district cooling plant on a BOOT delivery method.
- Continuing to advise owner client with respect to design and construction of a USD $22 billion integrated railway network.
- Continuing to represent contractor client in a major defective design highway construction case currently pending in the Qatar Court of First Instance.
- Continuing to represent owner client with respect to contract, preparation, negotiation and administration, dispute avoidance and dispute resolution on the construction of a multi-million dollar tower construction.
- Advised EPC contractor with regards to construction of multi-billion dollar desalination plant.
- Successfully represented contractor in defense of a multi-million dollar defective bridge construction claim.
- Provide support for the USD $1.1. billion expansion of an Integrated Petroleum Complex.
