Patton Boggs Gives to Haiti
January 15, 2010

Washington, DC, Jan. 15— Citing the devastating earthquake that killed thousands of Haitians, Patton Boggs LLP announced today that it would donate $25,000 to the American Red Cross and $25,000 to Doctors Without Borders.

In addition, the firm plans to match employee donations up to $50,000 to help Haiti as it emerges from the rubble of an earthquake that has killed thousands and adversely displaced an estimated 3 million people.

“As a firm, we are deeply saddened by the devastating earthquake and the tragedy that the Haitian people have endured,” said Stuart M. Pape, managing partner of the firm. “We know that no amount of money can fix this catastrophe, but we hope it will help to rebuild lives, buildings and most of all---hope.”

Rescue efforts have been undermined by a lack of resources and infrastructure. Emergency workers face a race against the clock to save those feared still trapped under crushed buildings and debris and to keep the injured and hungry alive, according to news reports.

Countless requests have come from people wanting to help, according to the Red Cross. The best way to donate is to click here. You can also visit the American Red Cross International Response Fund at redcross.org or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS. Donors can designate their gifts to Haiti relief. Donations to the International Response Fund allows the American Red Cross to respond to global emergencies and disasters.

Doctors Without Borders has already treated more than 1,000 people on the ground in Haiti following Tuesday's earthquake, according to their website. But the needs are huge. An inflatable hospital with operating theatres is expected to arrive in the next 24 hours. To donate please click here.
