Mark Ellison uses his more than three decades of industry experience to advise technology, communications and utilities clients regarding a broad array of legal, regulatory and business issues. Mr. Ellison helps both for-profit and non-profit technology and communications entities with business transactions, licensing agreements, general corporate matters, regulatory activities and government affairs. He has been involved extensively in many of the most important legal, legislative and business developments in the technology and communications fields in the last 30 years, including the emergence of broadband and wireless operations, smartgrid technology, WiMAX, cellular service, Internet protocol television, direct-to-home satellite television and many other industry-changing initiatives.

Before joining Patton Boggs, Mr. Ellison served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel for the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC), where he coordinated National Telecommunications and Information Administration, Federal Communications Commission and Rural Utilities Service economic stimulus applications for broadband and smartgrid. He also managed legal and governmental affairs for NRTC’s various telecommunications and utility businesses including broadband operations, cellular technology, video services and utility services.

Mr. Ellison has also served as general counsel to PrimeStar Satellite and the Satellite Broadcasting & Communications Association, and was assistant general counsel at Turner Broadcasting System. Mr. Ellison has extensive experience in corporate matters such as governmental investigations, board of directors’ governance matters, cooperative law and mergers and acquisitions.
