Associated with Patton Boggs for three decades, Sandy Martin has a varied international corporate practice and clientele. He has represented large U.S. multinational corporations in major business transactions and projects in the Middle East, Europe and Latin America. Mr. Martin represents foreign companies and foreign governments who have interests and investment activities in the United States. He also represents certain Middle East sovereign entities in the resolution of disputes and problems with significant legal, financial and diplomatic ramifications.
Prior to his association with the firm, Mr. Martin served in a variety of positions in the United States government relating to the development of U.S. foreign and national security policies in Asia and the Middle East. He served on the staff of five U.S. Secretaries of Defense between 1968 and 1976, including a two-year tour in Southeast Asia seconded to the U.S. Department of State. Mr. Martin continued to serve as a consultant to the Office of the Secretary of Defense until his professional responsibilities for foreign governments precluded him from continuing to serve in that capacity.
Mr. Martin attended Princeton University, where he studied in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and the Chinese Studies Program. He later received his master's degree in International Affairs from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and his law degree from Georgetown University. He spent a year as an exchange fellow at the Haileybury and Imperial Service College, Hertford, England and also lived in Trondheim, Norway under the auspices of the American Field Service program.
