Ora Sheinson focuses on complex environmental litigation and permitting and compliance issues. Ms. Sheinson represents major corporations in commercial litigation and has worked extensively on Superfund matters, possessing particular experience in cleanup and cost recovery actions related to wartime contamination, particularly munitions and explosives of concern. Ms. Sheinson has successfully obtained settlements from the United States for clients facing liability from former United States wartime activities at a Site.
Ms. Sheinson has achieved closure for clients facing environmental remediation costs through complex liability buyouts to cover cleanup costs and ongoing remediation. Notably, Ms. Sheinson is highly capable at identifying environmental liability and devising risk allocation options, including indemnifications and environmental insurance policies (particularly in the context of mergers and acquisitions and bank lending transactions). Ms. Sheinson has also worked on structuring corporate acquisition deals to avoid potential environmental liabilities including reviewing liabilities and assessing total risk potential in the context of the client needs.
Ms. Sheinson defends parties in landfill mediations and advises clients nationwide (including in Texas, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York) regarding environmental regulatory compliance and response to government actions. She is particularly proficient in her understanding of New Jersey solid waste and transport regulations.
Ms. Sheinson has extensive experience responding to toxic tort allegations, including assessing the scientific issues related to such claims. Notably, Ms. Sheinson is able to integrate the scientific issues raised by such litigation to develop an integrated response to plaintiff claims.
Before joining Patton Boggs, Ms. Sheinson was an associate in the environmental, land and resources department at one of the Am Law 100’s largest firms and a litigation associate in the New York City office of another prominent international firm.
Ms. Sheinson is a founding member and president of the Board of Canfei Nesharim, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating the Jewish community regarding the Jewish biblical laws governing environmental consciousness. Fluent in Hebrew, she has lectured extensively on the subject and has been quoted in both the New Jersey Jewish News and Jewish Standard.
