Patton Boggs Secures Guardianship of Grandchildren
Patton Boggs recently represented the grandparents of two children whose mother was murdered by their father. With their mother gone and their father serving a 17-year sentence for the crime, the two children, an 8-year old girl and a 4 year-old boy, needed permanent placement. Therefore, the maternal grandparents decided to pursue permanent guardianship of their grandchildren.
Associate David Silver and supervising partner Andrew Friedman provided pro bono assistance on behalf of the grandparents to secure guardianship of the children. Specifically, the Patton Boggs team drafted the initial Motion for Guardianship and other court filings, conducted legal research on guardianship issues, and met with the children, the grandparents, the children’s social worker and the Guardian ad Litem. Patton Boggs also prepared and conducted the Permanency trial that resulted in the naming of our clients as the permanent guardians. Thanks to Andrew’s and David’s work, the children will have a loving home with their grandparents.
