Patton Boggs Chairman Named Honorary Chair of 2011 DC Jazz Festival

Washington, DC, April 11, 2011--Patton Boggs is proud to announce today that firm Chairman Thomas Hale Boggs, Jr. has been named an honorary chair of the 2011 DC Jazz Festival. He will be joined by other Washington area leaders: Calvin Cafritz, Julissa Marenco, Gregory A. O’Dell, Katharine Weymouth and Howard Woolley to host the 7th annual festival June 1-13, 2011.

“This year’s honorary chairs were selected because of their continual dedication and support of the DC Jazz Festival,” says DC Jazz Festival Executive Producer Charles Fishman. “Tom, Calvin, Julissa, Greg, Katharine and Howard have been immensely instrumental in bringing the magic of jazz to Washington, D.C.”

Thomas Hale Boggs, Jr., Chairman, Patton Boggs LLP
Mr. Boggs has been named to The National Law Journal’s List of the Top 100 Lawyers in the U.S. every year since its inception. Despite spending his career in Washington, he is a native of New Orleans and has deep ties to Louisiana. His father, Thomas Hale Boggs, Sr., was a long-standing congressman from the 2nd District of Louisiana. His mother, Lindy, filled his father’s congressional seat in 1972 and served until 1991. Last year, the DC Jazz Festival honored Mr. Boggs with the 2010 DCJF John Conyers Jr. Jazz Advocacy Award.

"The festival is a world-class event, showcasing the best that jazz has to offer," said Mr. Boggs. "But the festival also showcases philanthropic spirit—the spirit of giving back to the community where jazz was born."

Calvin Cafritz, Chairman of the Board, President and CEO, The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation
One of largest private, independent, local foundations focused exclusively on the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation is the legacy of Morris Cafritz, one of the city’s leading commercial and residential builders from the early 1920’s to the mid-60’s. Mr. Cafritz has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the foundation since December 1988, Board Chairman since February 1989, and President and CEO since July 1993. He continues to support the foundation’s mission to build a stronger community for Washington, D.C. area residents through the support of programs in arts and humanities, community services, education, health and the environment.

Julissa Marenco, President, Telemundo-ZGS Station Group
Ms. Marenco leads Telemundo’s largest independent group of affiliates, overseeing the management and strategic direction of 13 Telemundo stations and three radio stations, including Telemundo Washington DC and Romántica 900 in the nation’s capital. Prior to her current capacity, she served as a White House Fellow, America’s most prestigious program for leadership and public service. She currently serves on the National Association of Broadcasters Educational Foundation (NABEF) board and Children’s National Medical Center Advocacy and Public Policy Advisory Board.

Gregory A. O’Dell, President and CEO, Washington Convention and Sports Authority
As president and CEO, Mr. O’Dell oversees the attraction and promotion of hospitality, sports, entertainment and cultural events in Washington, D.C. The Authority operates the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, RFK Stadium and the non-military functions of the DC Armory. Mr. O’Dell serves on the boards of Destination DC, the Children’s National Medical Center, Cultural Tourism DC, the National Cherry Blossom Festival and the Washington, D.C. Economic Partnership.

Katharine Weymouth, Publisher, The Washington Post; CEO, Washington Post Media
Granddaughter of the late Katharine Graham, Ms. Weymouth was named publisher of The Washington Post and CEO of Washington Post Media in 2008. She had been vice president of advertising for The Washington Post since January 2005. A graduate of Harvard College and Stanford Law School, Ms. Weymouth practiced law at Williams & Connolly prior to joining The Washington Post.

Howard Woolley, Senior Vice President, Strategic Alliances and Wireless Policy, Verizon Wireless
Mr. Woolley leads Verizon's initiatives with strategic external private and national governmental organizations, which have an interest in the company's products, services and public policies. He also has a leadership role in Verizon Wireless public policy matters. In 2011, Mr. Woolley was named one of the top 100 Executives in America by Uptown Professional Magazine and a Washington Business Journal Minority Business leader.

Special highlights returning this year include: Jazz on the Mall, Jazz in the 'Hoods, presented by the Washington Convention and Sports Authority, and Jazz 'n Families Fun Day, as well as a stellar lineup of internationally acclaimed artists, including Bobby McFerrin, Roy Hargrove, Eddie Palmieri, the Heath Brothers, Cyrus Chestnut, Antonio Hart, JD Allen and Claudia Acuña.
