Elizabeth Ames Jones is the immediate past chairman of the Texas Railroad Commission, the oldest energy regulatory agency in the world and regarded by many analysts and authorities as the most respected and effective regulatory body. The Texas Railroad Commission is recognized worldwide as an enduring model for the responsible oversight of the oil and natural gas industry, upstream to downstream, operating within Texas borders. Texas remains the largest oil and gas producing state in the United States. Established more than 100 years ago to oversee the rail industry, the modern day Commission does not have regulatory authority over rail in spite of its historical name.
Chairman Jones retired from elected office after eleven years, including four years in the Texas Legislature. Through the years, she has forged exceptional relationships with both domestic and international energy producers and is well respected for her expertise in energy-related public policy and her pragmatic skillsets with respect to the technical and political realities that can affect decisions at all levels of government. She assists clients of the firm in their strategic planning needs as they relate to public policy, regulation, and financial investment.
Ms. Jones has deep roots in the oil patch. She is the fifth generation of a family of oil and gas producers that have long been active in energy advocacy at the Federal and State levels.
Her energy commentary has been published in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Forbes, American Thinker, and business journals across Texas. She has been featured on Fox Business Network.
Chairman Jones has testified before the U.S. Congress multiple times and to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) on responsible onshore and offshore drilling of hydrocarbons and appropriate regulatory policy related to horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing.
She served on the Interstate Oil and Gas Commission, the National Association of State Regulatory Commissioners, and the Southern States Energy Board.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, she is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. In her spare time, Jones enjoys pursuits in the “Great Outdoors” – including hunting, fishing, and hiking with family and friends.
