Shaoul Aslan heads Patton Boggs’ Immigration and Nationality practice, and also handles a full range of immigration and nationality matters, representing both corporate clients and individuals before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly Immigration and Naturalization Service), the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Labor.
In representing corporate clients, Mr. Aslan counsels on immigration matters pertaining to international transfer of personnel. Typically, this involves developing an appropriate strategy to obtain the necessary nonimmigrant visa classification to permit employment authorization for the transferred employee, obtaining the required approvals from the Citizenship and Immigration Services, and the issuance of the visa to the employee and his or her dependents. The counseling may also involve obtaining permanent resident status for the employee. The immigration group also counsels corporate clients on compliance with the employer sanction provisions of the Immigration Reform and Control Act, conducts audits to ensure compliance, and prepares training manuals for the internal use of human resource personnel.
Mr. Aslan advises individuals on both nonimmigrant and immigrant visa options, as well as citizenship and retention of permanent residency status. In particular, Mr. Aslan advises clients on visa investment opportunities including EB-5 investments, and works with tax consultants to develop and implement immigration strategies in coordination with tax implications for such strategies.
The immigration group and other members of the Firm also engage in a wide variety of pro bono projects on behalf of immigrants. These projects involve representing clients in removal and asylum hearings.
Mr. Aslan and the members of the immigration group have been involved and worked on all the various facets of the EB-5 program.
