Chip Ford focuses his practice on negotiating and litigating matters involving construction projects, insurance coverage for construction projects, commercial leases and general real estate matters.

Mr. Ford has extensive experience representing governments, private owners, developers and design professionals in negotiating all forms of construction contracts. He also resolves and litigates construction disputes in matters involving bid protests, multi-unit residential towers and developments, schools, commercial projects, design deficiencies, sub-surface defects, water intrusion and lien foreclosures.

Additionally, Mr. Ford negotiates, works out, litigates and drafts leases for commercial projects. He also litigates title defects, access issues and eminent domain proceedings.

Before joining Patton Boggs, Mr. Ford served as the president and owner of Roy J. Ford, Jr. P.A., in Tampa, FL. He also has experience working at law firms in Tampa and Washington, D.C., where he focused on real property litigation and bankruptcy.

Representative Matters:
  • Representing the New Doha International Airport on matters such as negotiations for mobile communications services and mediation of construction claims.
  • Represented a regional water supply authority in the condemnation of a 12-mile easement through urban and rural areas, for the placement of an 84-inch underground water supply pipe.
  • Represented an owner of multi-story buildings in mid-town New York, New York on the build out of multiple floors of office space.
  • Represented the owner of a 93,000 square foot, single-tenant office building in a lease default, and resolved the default by working out new lease terms, by drawing down the letter of credit and by having the letter of credit replenished.
  • Represented a manufacturer of impact-resistant windows and doors on numerous claims involving water intrusion and product defects, and favorably resolved all claims either prior to or at mediation.
  • Represented various clients in insurance coverage disputes, including one where the carrier paid 100 percent of the claim made against his client, allowing his client to remain in business, even though the carrier denied coverage before Mr. Ford was retained.
  • Represented defendants in litigation concerning a real estate transaction where the jury returned a verdict of no liability in the defendants’ favor. The original defense attorney withdrew after handling the case for 10 years, and the defendants retained Mr. Ford as new counsel just three weeks before trial.
  • Represented a commercial real estate developer desiring to close and convert a mobile home park into a shopping center in litigation initiated by the tenants of that park. Summary judgment was entered in favor of the developer, allowing construction of the shopping center to begin on schedule.
