Immigration
Attorneys in the Patton Boggs Immigration practice offer a full range of immigration and naturalization counseling and services, primarily to corporate clients, including multinational consumer goods, pharmaceutical and retail companies.
The firm regularly works with these corporate clients and with their non-U.S. employees to arrive at both long-term and short-term immigration strategies designed to serve the unique needs and circumstances which typically characterize each case. We are aware of the many different types of visas that may be available in any single case and the advantages and drawbacks of each. Having formulated an appropriate strategy, we will acquire the appropriate non-immigrant visa for a foreign employee, thus enabling him or her to work for extended periods in the United States, while also considering and addressing the concerns of family members. We routinely obtain extensions of stay for individuals who have been admitted into the United States on temporary visas, and secure changes in their immigration status in the United States, as necessary.
In addition, Patton Boggs works with clients to obtain permanent residence (“green cards”) for individuals. This often involves obtaining labor certification, a process administered by the United States Department of Labor, and dealing with U.S. Consuls abroad for issuance of the immigrant visa. We also conduct internal I-9 audits to ensure that clients are in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act, which prohibits the employment of individuals who are not authorized to work in the United States.
Our Immigration group is constantly seeking creative solutions within the context of the United States immigration law for specific client concerns and problems. We develop both short- and long-term immigration strategies to best meet the specific needs of the employer, the employee, and his or her dependents. We also prepare and present training seminars to current and prospective clients on the complete spectrum of immigration issues.
