Scott Thompson uses his legislative and executive branch experience to assist international and domestic clients in navigating Washington’s legal and policy arenas. Mr. Thompson focuses his work on Patton Boggs’ Public Policy and International practice areas.
Before attending law school, where he was President of the UVA Law Democrats and an officer in the international law society, Mr. Thompson worked as a legislative fellow advising Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA) on international relations, financial services, judiciary, and energy issues from 2000 to 2001.
From 1997 to 2000, Mr. Thompson worked at the Department of State as a Presidential Management Intern and as a Special Assistant to Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security John Holum. From 1997 to 1999, Mr. Thompson’s portfolio focused on Central and Eastern Europe, including issues surrounding the enlargement of NATO and the conflicts in Bosnia and Kosovo. In 2000, he acted as an advisor to Under Secretary Holum on global arms transfer, regional security, and security assistance funding matters in Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America.
Mr. Thompson also served as an intern handling Senate Armed Services Committee issues for Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA). In addition, he worked for Vice President Al Gore on “reinventing government” matters as a White House Intern.
